Mool Realization cannot be Made to an Order

Bibek or Wisdom and Virtues cannot be made to an order, gifted, inherited, purchased or stolen. It can only be Realized Within.

The Shabad Guru (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, SGGS) in that sense is an emperor, unselfishly having only the best interest of the learner or student (i.e. Sikh) at heart, while expecting nothing in return.

Abidance in one’s Original Nature (Jot Saroop) cannot be given to someone as a ready-made package or as a mundane gift. According to the Gurbani, each person must help himself/herself to realize one’s Mool Within. Nobody else can do it for you

  • ਆਪਣ ਹਥੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰੀਐ ॥੨੦॥ : (So long there is breathPraan) accomplish the task (of God Realization) yourself ( i.e. with self-efforts: Shabad-Vichaar …). ||20|| (sggs 474).
: (The Internal cleansing is by a spirituality of) Internalizing (the Naam: Shabad, Hukam, Virtues, Giaan-Wisdom) through sustained deeds. Whatever you sow, you will reap. Nanak, (to reap as one saw) is the Hukam of the Creator pertaining to my cycle (of spirituality at the mind’s level). ॥20॥ (sggs 4).
: Life is the field of actions; I alone will reap all that I sow. (sggs 134).
  • ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ਫੂਟਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੦॥ : Those who seek Prabhu (i.e., Mool …), they obtain (i.e., realize their Mool within ); others die fragmented in their egotism (i.e., die without realizing their Mool). ||20|| (sggs 911).
: Those who diligently and arduously Realized (acquired / practiced) Naam (spiritual Wisdom, divine Virtue), they, O Nanak, Realize God (become ‘Sachiaaraa-ਸਚਿਆਰਾ’ in their spiritual Journey) by overcoming / freeing themselves from the primary affliction (of Koorh-ਕੂੜ). ॥1॥ (sggs 8).

Kaaju‘ (‘ਕਾਜੁ‘) => Purpose, object, work, affair, ਕੰਮ, ਕਾਰਜ, etc.

Savaareeai‘ (‘ਸਵਾਰੀਐ’) => Arrange, improve, adorn, recollect, amend, maintain, ਸਵਾਰੀਏ, ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹੀਏ, etc.

According to the Gurbani in SGGS – the purpose or object of the human birth is to become One (‘Ik’ with the Truth, Divine Wisdom, Virtues…), or to Unite (‘ਵੀਆਹੁ’) the mind with its Mool (Source, Jot…) Within.

: (Man) is born in this life only to become ONE (with Prabh, Mool, etc. – through Naam…). (But) ever since (man’s) birth, (he) has been enticed and deceived by Maya. (sggs 251).
: This is what Nanak says: O my mind, you are the ‘Jot Saroop’ or embodiment of Light (God)! Recognize your Mool (ORIGIN, Source…) ||5|| (sggs 441).
: Whoever does not Realize the Essence or Reality of the Soul (ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ…), all his religious acts are of no value – worthless (sggs 1351).

This is our affair that we all need to resolve ourselves (‘

Which, nobody else can do it for us, says the Gurbani.

In other words, a learner of the SGGS (meaning a Sikh or a student of the SGGS – ਸਿਖਿਆਰਥੀ) must become his own teacher to Teach himself through the Shabad-Vichaar.

: Let (your) body be the mosque; let (your) mind be the priest; and (keep your mind ever) Pure; (this Purity of the mind) is the Khudaa’s Kalmaa. ||2|| (sggs 1083).
: (Who) in the farm of the pure Heart plants trees of the Gur-Shabad and irrigates it with the (Divine) Love; all these trees bear the fruit of the Naam (Brahm-Giaan or Spiritual Wisdom) of the One; (but) without Karma (i.e., without the right thinking based on the Gur-Shabad), how can anyone obtain (this fruit of Naam – fruit of Wisdom or ਗਿਆਨ-ਫਲ)? ||3|| (sggs 235).
  • ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪਾ ਚੀਨੈ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥ : ‘Jan’ Nanak says, without KNOWING one’s ownself, the moss of doubt from the mind does not go away. ||2||1|| (sggs 684).
: Sikhi is contemplation on Guru’s teaching (Instructions, Wisdom, Counsel, Guide, Upadesh, Giyan, Bibek) and acting on it. Being blessed by the Grace of the Guru’s teaching one then crosses the ocean of worldly temptations and their corrupting influences (Bhav Saagar). (sggs 465).
: Satigur bachan kamaavane sachaa ehu veecharu (sggs 52).
: Aapai japahu aapanaa jaap (sggs 343).

Thus, the SGGS wants each one of us to become our own teacher and learn through the Shabad-Vichaar.

This is ‘Nij Bhagtee‘ (‘ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤੀ’) – ‘Bhagti‘ of the own self by the own self (ਆਪਣੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ) to realize one’s own Mool through the Gurmat (Spiritual Wisdom or Brahm-Giaan of the Gurbani). And, this ‘Nij Bhagtee‘ is performed in the Home of one’s own Inner Being (‘Nij Ghari-ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ’):

  • ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਨੂਪ ਪੂਰੀ ਆਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਜਿਤੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ : Nij Bhagti (that serves the mind) is akin to a sweet (natured-ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ…) woman; whose beauty is incomparable, and whose character is perfect (complete). The House (of the Heart) in which (she i.e. ‘Nij Bhagti‘) dwells is such a praiseworthy House (Beautiful, ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲਾ). But only a rare one by becoming the Gurmukh (Enlightened mindset) attains this Nij Bhagti. ||1|| (sggs 370).
: Naam bhagti de nij ghar … (sggs 1109).

Thus, according to the Gurbani, each one of us must work on our mind to bend it back to its Mool within through the Shabad-Surat. Nobody else (e.g., the crafty and illiterate Pujaaree system, Deraavaad, Pujaaree groups, etc.) can make it to an order for anybody else.

: One who Reflects on the self, recognizes Jewel like Naam (Wisdom / Virtues). (sggs 413).

To accomplish just that, here is the Gurbani’s sure and simple formula, with guarantee!!

: Through the Shabad Vichaar, Union (with the Mool) is Realized; there is no doubt in it (sggs 413).

In ‘Sidh Gost’ Bani, Sidhas (Yogis) asked Baabaa Nanak to discourse on:

: (Towards Realization of the Creator WITHIN) what is the method of traversing the human life? (While traversing the human life towards Realization of the Creator) what is focus of your mind? (sggs 939).

Baabaa Nanak discoursed the above questions of Sidhas (Yogis) as follows:

: Being born into the Spirituality on account of the Satgur ends the cycle of spiritual death (‘Gavan’). (While traversing the human life towards Realization of the Creator) the mind is immersed in undivided focus and love of the Shabad. (sggs 940).

Therefore, the Gurbani asks each one of us:

: O my body, since you came into this world, what actions have you performed (i.e., have you gained thinking conducive to Mool-realization, or have you gained thinking to the contrary)? (sggs 922).
: (O Jeev – individual being, you) Do not fulfill the Purpose (of your life of Mool Realization, but instead you) wander around to the contrary (or like a whirlpool, or like a cloud that does not rain, etc.). (sggs 320).

The Gurbani wants us to become the Gurmukh. For a Gurmukh is the only one who Understands and obtains through ‘Khoj’ (search, reflections, spiritual inquiry …). However, ‘Khoj’ requires ‘Uddam‘ (self-effort: Shabad-Vichaar).

: (One) resolves his own affair himself (i.e. the ultimate Purpose of life of God Realization); anyone else cannot do this work (for him). Only a rare Guru’s follower (Gurmukh-Hood Mindset) understands that his Realization of God requires the virtues like Godly Contentment, Compassion and Dharma. ||3|| (sggs 351).
: Who becomes the Gurmukh seeks and realize (his Mool within) himself. (sggs 415).
: Uddamu karat … (sggs 456).
: (Hukam: Universal System-Rule-Law of Nature-ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮ) which is applicable to the entire Universe, the same (Hukam) is applicable to human beings as well. A person who tries searching Within and understands this point, he can understand God residing within.
  • Peepaa prays – If Satguru is met (Wisdom of Truth: ਸੱਚਾ ਗਿਆਨ), then the Greatest Reality (Real Source, Creator, ਅਸਲੀਅਤ, ਤੱਤ, ਸੱਚ) is revealed (Within). ||2||3|| (sggs 695).

The Gurbani warns that Pakhand (pretense) will not do the trick!

  • ਚਿਟੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤ ਕਠੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਚੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਸੇ ਢੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ : Their clothes are white (beautiful religious robes) but their conscience is cruel and filthy (full of vices — they look holy or Mahaatamaa on the outside only). Their minds don’t acquire Naam (Giaan-Wisdom, Virtues…); engrossed in duality they cheat people (i.e. their external appearance is only pretense-Pakhand to cheat people). They do not Understand their own Mool (Source, Jot Saroop…); that’s why they are fools with animal intelligence ||3|| (sggs 751).

  3. A Quote from SGGS ji,
    “BHAEE RE GuR BINu GIYAAN NAA HOYEE
    PUCHO BRHMAA NAAEDE BED BIYAASE KOYE” ShreeRaagM-1
    SO GuRu IS MUST ..Agreed

  4. Thank you Sukhwant Ji for taking the time and sharing Vichaar.

    SO GURU is MUST.

    Very true! Vichaar of the Gur-Shabad coupled with implementation of Gur-Giaan of the Gur-Shabad is essential. A Sikh devoid of this basic of Gurmat is nowhere!

    Accordingly, the Gurbani urges us to learn the Upadesh (Instructions, Giaan, Wisdom, Advice, Counsel, etc.) of the Gur-Shabad with single-minded focus and utmost Love.
    • ਸਿਖਹੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਹੋ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥: Sikhahu sabadu piaariho janam maran kee tek (sggs 320).
    • ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥: The whole world loses (the game of human-life: ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ), only that person wins who Reflects (Vichaar) on the Gur-Shabad (sggs 422).
    • ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਨ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਕਛੂਅਕ ਪੜੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ॥੫॥: To instruct the mind (ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ-to raise the Consciousness to the High Plane, one) ought to study Divine Knowledge (ਉੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ…) to some extent. ||5|| (sggs 340).
    • ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥: Hari japi parheeai gur sabad veechaari (sggs 422).

  5. We must remember following lines from Guru Granth Sahib ji-
    O Siblings of Destiny, without the Guru, there is no devotional worship.
    Trying millions of things, people have grown weary, but without the Guru, none have been saved. ||2||
    So it is very much true that ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਅਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ “This is our affair that we all need to resolve ourselves (“ਆਪਣ ਹਥੀ”).
    Which, nobody else can do it for us, says the Gurbani. BUT without teachings & blessings of GURU one cannot do anything fruit-full in any field.
    SO GURU is MUST.
    Bhul-Chuk Maff Karni

  6. I think thru the SABAD one gets the understanding of THE MOOL
    and having known THE MOOL one is directed for a further
    technique of UNION with THE MOOL and that technique is SIMRAN of SATi NAAMu of THE MOOL.

  7. technique for the realisation of the “MOOL” will have to be learnt from GuRu

    Yes Bhai Sahib Ji. Thank you.
: Through the Shabad, Union with the Mool is Realized; there is no doubt in it (sggs 413).

  8. I think that the technique for the realisation of the “MOOL” will have to be learnt from GuRu and then make efforts accordingly.

  9. Thank you Bhai Sahib Ji for taking the time to read the post and comment.

    Thank you for your kind words, encouragement, and blessings.

  10. Waheguru ji ki fateh,
    May God bless you to spread the message of SGGS ji in true form.
    Thanks
