The Gurbani shows us the signs of one’s Union with the One Creator. Like a barometer, this can help us in evaluating our own State of the spiritual journey!
: This is the sign of Mool-Realization: one’s mind abides in the Divine Hukam (Universal System-Rule-Law of Nature; ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮ). Those who live in harmony with the Divine Hukam remain established in Sahaj (Natural State of Being, Giyan- Wisdom Avasthaa…), Godly contentment, enduring satisfaction (from worldly desires) and Bliss. ||3|| (sggs 106).
- ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥ ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਜੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਲੋਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥ ਸੋਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ : Blessed is that soul-bride (ਜੀਵ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ), who realizes her Mool. She lives in harmony with the Divine Hukam (Universal Sysytem-Rule-Law of Nature; ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮ), and abandons her self-conceit. Imbued in the love of her Mool, she enjoys (Spiritual Bliss, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ). O mate! Listen the signs of Mool-realization. ||1|| (The way is) dedicate your mind and body to the Divine Hukam and lay aside any thoughts of worldly embarrassment (ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ). ||1||Pause|| Such a Mool-Abided soul-bride counsels others that a Mool-Abided soul-bride does only that deed which is pleasing to Husband-God (Mool). Such a soul-bride Realizes God. ||2|| (sggs 737).

The forgoing verses (and many more in the SGGS) draw a learner’s (i.e. a Sikh) attention to inculcate essential Divine Qualities or Virtues (ਗੁਣ) as signs of one’s Mool-Abidance within (Source, Origin, Jot…):
- Living in harmony with the Divine Hukam (Universal System-Rule-Law of Nature;
- Remembering/living/practicing the Divine Naam (Giyan-Wisdom / Virtues).
- Internalizing the Enlightening Spiritual Message of the Guru Shabad.
- Deeming Sukh and Dukh alike (i.e. to become free of duality, the pair of opposites such as ‘likes and dislikes’…).
- Becoming kind to all beings.
- Overpowering vices/Bikaar — lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride; and their countless variations.
- Remaining untouched by the worldly temptations and their corrupting influences (Maya). Example given is of ‘lotus‘.
- Counseling friend and enemy alike (i.e., adopting Teaching in which the friend and the enemy look alike).
- Renouncing ‘Lok Laaj’ — lay aside any thoughts of worldly embarrassment (ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ)/stop living to please others.
- Renouncing slandering, eradicating false ego-sense (Haumai) and becoming humble.
- Becoming the Gurmukh (Enlightened, Guru Shabad-Oriented). Once the mind becomes focused on Message of the Guru Shabad, the body also follows …..
In a nutshell, the Creator – without form-shape-color (without ‘Roopu-ਰੂਪੁ’, ‘Raekh-ਰੇਖ’, and ‘Rangu-ਰੰਗੁ’) – is within our brain as:
- Virtues (ਗੁਣ) – Truth, honesty, contentment, mercy, patience, Sahaj, etc.
- System, Rule or Law of Nature (Hukam, ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮ) – we reap what we saw! This System-Rule-Law of consequences is present within all beings, and also throughout the Universe.
Hence God in Gurmat or Sikhi is NOT SEPARATE FROM MAN!
Therefore there is nothing in the Universe – visible or invisible – which Baabaa Nanak does not call God (One Creator – Universal Energy!
: He is always close at hand (ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ) – do not think that He is far away. Through the Guru’s Shabad, recognize the Lord deep within your own being. (sggs116).
: Amidst all, the one God has assumed many forms, and He is enjoying pervading all the Hearts. Ravi Das says: God is nearer to us than even our hands, and whatever is happening, is happening in His Hukam (System-Rule-Law-Order of Nature). ||4||1|| (sggs 658).
: (O Lord) You dwell, hidden, within the Heart (of all beings) day and night, but the fools do not understand to Love You (sggs 607).
