First off, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) rejects miracles, and condemns the conscious display of miracles or occult powers — they are of no value whatsoever, hence waste of time and practically useless.
Karaamaat = ਕਰਾਮਾਤ = Miracle, miraculous power, occult powers, magic, weird tricks, supernatural events, Sidhi…
The Gurbani calls them “Avraa Saad-ਅਵਰਾ ਸਾਦ”, “Paakhand(u)-ਪਾਖੰਡੁ”, “Moh(u)-ਮੋਹੁ”…
: (O Yogi!) The Divine is supreme (Universal Energy, System of Nature…) whose (Hukam) controls all; (these Mayaic) Ridhi Sidhi are all inferior tastes (sggs 6).
: I know nothing of “Paakhand” of Tantric spells and magical mantras (witchcraft, ਜਾਦੂ-ਟੂਣਾ…); I have enshrined Raam (-Naam: Wisdom, Truth…) within my Heart, my mind is pleased with That. (sggs 766).
However, despite the fact that the Gurbani has rejected miracles (Karaamaat), still there are countless fake stories (ਗੱਪ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ, ਮੰਨ-ਘੜੰਤ ਝੂਠ ਸਾਖੀ) in Sikhi manufactured by the illiterate, ignorant, and corrupt Pujaaree groups (ਮੰਗ ਖਾਣਾਂ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਲਾਣਾਂ), foolish so called scholars, ignorant writers and Kathaakaar, Deraa-Vaad, etc. They attribute these fake stories to the Gurus and Bhagats.
The Gurbani indicates that the conscious display of miracles (Karamaat-ਕਰਾਮਾਤ…) are illusion — the dictum of the senses confined to time and space.
Hence, the intention or Goal of the Gurbani is not to create sorcerers, magicians, Madaaree or Manmukh, but the Gurmukh (Hukam-Willed: ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ…)!
Do you want to see a wondrous miracle in life?
If you do, then the Gurbani says have your mind abides in the Naam (Wisdom, Virtues, Truth, Hukam or Law of Nature…). To have the mind abide in the Naam is the best miracle!
- ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਏਹਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਏਹਾ ਕਰਮਾਤਿ ॥੨॥: O Nanak! By becoming the Gurmukh, the Divine Naam (Truth, Wisdom, Virtues…) abides in the mind; this is Sidhi and Karaamaat. ||2|| (sggs 650).
: Behold, a wondrous miracle has happened (within me)! That Divine (Universal Energy, System of Nature…), whose wisdom is said to be unfathomable, has been enshrined within my heart by the Guru. ||Pause|| (sggs 612).
: Without the Naam, all dress and eating are worthless; (without the Naam) accursed are all Sidhee and Karaamaat (sggs 650).
Simply put, the Gurbani tells us that the wondrous miracle would be to change one’s own mind (thinking, Soch) – uproot it from Mayaic consciousness and root it back to its Mool (Source, Jot Saroop, True Nature, Truth…), within.
- ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਚਲਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵਨਾ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥: O Nanak! The Guru has shown me such a miracle that within my very mind I now enjoy the Divine (Truth, Wisdom, Virtues…). ||8||2||5|| (sggs 1018).
: O Nanak! That is the Karaamaat when (the mind) becomes pleased (with the Hukam or Law of Nature, Shabad, Upadesh, Naam, Wisdom, Virtues… ||1|| (sggs 475).
In other words, one should focus on amending his own mind (purifying, cleansing, annihilating, killing, conquering, etc.). Because, it’s the mind that needs to become a Sikh.
That is, if one is successful changing his own mind, consider that as a wonderful miracle!
Hence, the Real Miracle is to get the mind linked with the Mool within through the Naam, or Bhagti, or Shabad-Vichaar...
