Naam Unites All

The Divine Wisdom of the Gurbani Teaches us that the “Raam Naam” yokes all together, like all beads strung on one common thread!.

: The Divine Naam Joins all together; the body (Kaaiaa, Dehee…) and the breath (vital life force) belong to it (sggs 477).
: O Nanak! Contemplate (think over…) the Naam, the Support of all beings (sggs 29).

In other words, the Gurbani’s Divine Wisdom Teaches us that there is but One Absolute Reality. This one Supreme Essence is the substratum (Support) of all. It is this Infinite Reality, the Homogeneous Oneness, the highest plane of Pure Consciousness, which runs in and through all beings. This is the Gurbani’s Supreme Truth.

Simply put: “Gobind” (Mool) in me is “Gobind” in all — “ਸਭੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹੈ…” (sggs 485).

Now let’s try to understand this “Raam Naam” further through the Gurbani.

The Gurbani defines the Gurmat’s (Teaching of the Gurbani) “Raam Naam” as follows:

  • ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਰਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥: Raam Naam is my Brahm Giaan (Divine Wisdom…). ||1||Pause|| (sggs 1159).

Simply put: “Raam Naam” => “Brahm Giaan” => Divine Wisdom (Shabad, Hukam, Divine Qalities…).

Now, perhaps, we can appreciate as to why the Gurbani Teaches us that the Naam Padaarath and the Giaan Padaarath are essentially one and the same.

: The Gur-Giaan (Spiritual Wisdom…) is the Naam Padaarath. (Hence, the Guru) makes the Hari Naam firm (resolved, stable, strong, properly understood, ਪੱਕਾ, ਦ੍ਰਿੜ, etc., in the mind of the sincere seeker of Truth – ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ…). (sggs 759).
: Aisaa giaani pdaarathu Naamu… (sggs 831).
: Tatu giaanu Hari Amrit Naam (sggs 1146).

Accordingly — to be able to see One “Light” or “Jot” in all beings — the Gurbani reminds us  to be established in “Brahm Giaan” (Divine Wisdom, Naam, Hukam, Shabad…).

A person of such Divine Vision is called Brahm-Giaanee in the Gurbani (the Man of Divine Wisdom, Divine Qualities, Divine Life; the Gurmukh, Jana, Daas, Bhagat; who abides in the Divine Hukam (Will…).

  • ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਏਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਲਛਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥: The True One is on his mind, and the True One is upon his lips. He sees only the One, nothing else. O Nanak! These are the Qualities of the Brahm-Giaanee. ||1|| (sggs 272).

It’s amazing how the Gurbani is so logical, so precise, so consistent, and so clear in the delivery of its Universal Message!

However, unfortunately — either willfully, or because of ignorance of the Gurbani, or both — the majority (if not all) of the greedy and crafty Pujaaree Group (ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਲਾਣਾ, Bhai, Ragi, Parchaarak, Deraavaad Sant, etc.) has reduced the Gurbani to just an object of idol worshiping!

The Gurbani is “Brahm Beechaar” (“ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ”). There is no place for Karamkaand (rituals) in Brahm-Vichaar. Those who think otherwise apparently take the Gur-Shabad to be just a song (“ਗੀਤੁ-Geetu”). Who just blindly follow the nonsense Karamkaand and superstitions propagated by the “mistaken” Pujaaree-group which is strongly rejected by the Gurbani.

: Jan Nanak utters the Brahm Vichaar (Divine Wisdom…). One who listens and practices (it in daily life), is carried across (Maya-Ocean, Bhavsaagar…).(sggs 370).
: The “Maalini” (intellect of the Pujaaree Group..) is mistaken, and the world is mistaken (because the mistaken Pujaaree Group has mislead the people of the world!), but (Kabeer Sahib says:), I am not mistaken. Says Kabeer! I have been saved (from this mistaken Pujaaree-Group) by the Grace of Raam (i.e., Raam-Naam: the Divine Wisdom, Divine Qualities, Hukam, Brahm-Giaan, Shabad….). ||5||1||14|| (sggs 479).
: Logu jaanai ihu geetu hai ihu taou Brahm Beechaar (sggs 335).

In nutshell, “Brahm-Giaan” of the entire Gurbani (SGGS) is the Naam-Amrit, Naam-Dhan or Giaan-Dhann (the Wealth of the Brahm-Giaan or the Divine Wisdom…). The Gurbani confirms it as follows:

  • ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥: By becoming the Gurmukh “Sabadu-ਸਬਦੁ” is realized; (and who realizes becomes) immersed in the Amrit-Naam. (Whosoever within) has lit the bright (Light or Lamp of) Gur-Giaan or Spiritual Wisdom, (from within him) the darkness of ignorance gets dispelled ||2|| (sggs 29).
: Cheenai giaanu dhiaanu dhannu... (sggs 1332).
: Giaaneeaa kaa dhannu Naamu hai… (sggs 68).

This Divine Wisdom is called the “Kharragu” (“ਖੜਗੁ”: sword) of the “Satiguroo” (“ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ”) in the Gurbani.

: The Satgur handed me a Sword of Spiritual Wisdom (i.e. Enlightenment) and with which I have ELIMINATED Jam Doot (i.e. Pain and Vices – ‘ਦੁਖ ਪਾਪ’). (sggs 574).

According to the Gurbani, it is this sword of the Divine Wisdom which can cut asunder the mind’s ignorance. Nothing else will do the trick!

In other words, the All-pervading Divine Presence within oneself as well as all other beings can only be experienced with the help of this Divine Wisdom.

In nutshell, the True Wisdom is the Love of one’s Mool (Source, Jot, Raam, Gobind…). Mool is the Ocean and all forms seen are its waves dancing on it!

  1. Thanks for further clarifying jio. It makes sense to remain “alert (“ਸਾਵਧਾਨ”)”.

  2. To travel along the spiritual path is like racing along the razor’s edge. Very arduous!
The seeker has to be alert (“ਸਾਵਧਾਨ”), all the time.
Thus, the Gurbani’s Divine Wisdom not only makes man Hari-like but also avers that this great privilege has got its own severe responsibilities!

Thank you Bhai Sahib Jio for sharing the Gurbani Vichaar

  3. “… all forms seen are its waves dancing on it!” this would include “crafty Pujaaree Group” also. How appropriate it is to say that on one hand seeker is distracted through crafty ways of Creator and on the hand is smooth sailing through Raam Naam is assured? as Raam Naam is also the foundation of Crafty ways.

  4. We are essentially required to get recogination of “ਸਬਦੁ” and without its recogniations any understanding of Gurbaanee may not be correct
    as envisaged in SGGS ji.
In this context there is very clear message in Raag Maaru as
“So Munmukh jo SABADu naa Pchchaane”
    pp 1054 Sggs ji

  5. Thank you Bhai Sahib Jio for sharing the Shabad Vichaar.
: Saachu Naamu gur sabadi veechaari (sggs 355).

  6. Very meaningful blog Veer ji, RAAM NAAMu which is revealed thru SABADu in Gurbaanee is also refered as Gurmati Raam Naamu and is the same as HARi NAAMu.
Thus what is SABADu is very important to know and the reference meaning of SABADu is being revealed thru THE WORD “GuROO”.
    This should be critically observed.
