He is Kulvant, Patvant, Dhanvant …

KULAVANT‘ (ਕੁਲਵੰਤੁ) = Of noble birth or noble family, and so on.
‘PATVANT’ (ਪਤਿਵੰਤੁ) = Honorable, respectable, and so on.
‘DHANVANT’ (ਧਨਵੰਤ) = Wealthy, prosperous, and so on. …

Some call themselves ‘KULAVANT‘ or ‘KULVANTAA‘ based on their caste, race, family of birth, heredity, ancestry, region, social status, creed, education, titles, and so on. Gurbani in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) does NOT support such definition of ‘KULAVANT‘.

  • ਜੌ ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣੀ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ ਤਉ ਆਨ ਬਾਟ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਹੀ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥ : If you are indeed a Brahmin, born of a Brahmin mother, then why didn’t you come by some other way ||2|| (sggs 324)?
: High and low, caste and status – the world wanders lost in doubt. (sggs 1243).
: Whether of high or low caste, one who meditates on the Naam (Wisdom) realizes the supreme wealth (of Naam, Wisdom…). (sggs 574).

Some call themselves ‘PATVANT’ or ‘PATVANTAA‘ based on some mundane honor or respect. Again, Gurbani does NOT support such definition of ‘Patvant‘ either.

Also, some call themselves ‘DHANVANT’ or ‘DHANVANTAA‘ based on some mundane wealth, properties, money etc. Again, Gurbani does NOT support such definition of ‘Dhanvant‘ either.

Similarly, some call themselves ‘SOORAA (ਸੂਰਾ) based on their physical strength, blowing themselves up and killing innocents in the process, oppressing the destitute, terrorizing others, dying in the battle field, and so on. Gurbani does NOT support such definition of ‘Sooraa‘ either.

: They are not called heroes, who die of egotism, suffering in pain. The (egotist, ignorant) blind ones do not realize their own selves (i.e., True Nature, Joti-Svaroopa, etc.); in the love of duality, they rot. They struggle with (others in) great anger; they suffered in the past and will suffer in the future. The Divine ( Wisdom or Virtues, Truth, Mool…),  is not pleased by egotism; the Vedas proclaim this clearly. Those who die in egotism are ruined. (Their minds) die and are reborn, repeatedly ||9|| (sggs 1089).
: (God) is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle i.e., by becoming a martyr or Shaheed (sggs 1237).

Then, according to Gurbani, who is the real SOORAAKULAVANT, PATVANT and DHANVANT? Gurbani’s precise answers follows.

First, Gurbani defines the true ‘KULVANT‘:

: Noble (Kulvantaa) is he who contemplates the Lord. (sggs 1150).
: (That soul-bride who has realized God Within) is considered to be of noble family, and a queen who is adorned with the Love of her
    Husband God. ||3|| (sggs 97).

Next, Gurbani defines the true ‘PATVANT’:

: Honorable (Pativantaa) is he who recognizes his ownself (Mool-ਮੂਲ, Source, Essential Nature or Jot Saroop, etc.). ||2|| (sggs 1150).
: Those who remember God are honorable. (sggs 263).

Next, Gurbani defines the true ‘DHANVANT’:

: He alone is wealthy (Dhanvantaa) who possesses discriminating intellect (Bibek-Budhi). (sggs 1150).
: Those who remember God are (spiritually) wealthy. (sggs 263).
: He is a living liberated who keeps God in Heart. That person is indeed (spiritually) wealthy, of noble family and honorable who has realized God Within and have become living liberated. (sggs 294).

Next, Gurbani defines the true ‘SOORAA’:

: Practice teaching of the Gurbani (Gurmati), become spiritual hero and emerge in the Shabad (sggs 1043).
: O Nanak! He is a brave warrior, who kills (conquers, annihilates…) his vicious ego from within (sggs 86).
: One who kills this (i.e. duality) is a Sooraa — Spiritual Hero (sggs 238).
: He is Sooraa (Spiritual Hero to tackle vices/Bikaar…) and of high lineage who is imbued/united with God Within. Ksashatriy, Brahmin, Shoodra, Vaishya and outcast are all saved by remembering (the Divine). (sggs 300).

Such person is also called the ‘Gurmukh‘ in Gurbani — Enlightened or Guru Shabad-Oriented mindset. Such individual accept reality as the Hukam of the Creator.

: He alone is a spiritual hero, who believes in the Gur-Shabad. (sggs 1023).
: Through the Shabad, one becomes brave spiritual hero. (sggs 1060).
