Human Body: a ‘Pile of Ordure and Maggots’ if..

The human body is indicated to be a “pile of ordure and maggots’ if:

: Dhrig sareer asat bistaa krim bin Hari jaanat hor ||1|| (sggs 1228).

Duality — Doojaa Bhaav, Doojaa Bharam, or Dubidhaa, etc. — is the principle of plurality, relativism, two-ness, ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾ, the notion of “I, me, mine, you”, etc. As such, it gives rise to divisions, friction, separateness, Bikaars (evils like lust, anger, greed, attachment, etc.), selfishness, corruption, body-consciousness, and so on. It’s the ignorance of the Haume mind (ego-mind), thus a fiction, a non-reality, mirage, Bharam (doubts), illusion (Maya) or deception (ਛੱਲ).

: Sache baajhahu ko avar n dooaa. Doojai laag jag khap khap mooaa (sggs 113).

If duality is the body, suffering is its head. The more one loves duality, the more he will suffer. But, interestingly enough, all of us in this illusory bondage inexorably pursue the illusion. Thus, as time and again pointed out in the Gurbani, to live in a mere duality is the man’s sad fall into a low state. All scriptures and the Spiritual Teachers agree on this one point: man’s paramount duty in life is to understand his degradation and reclaim himself from this state of duality-slavery, Maya-slavery, Haoumai- or ego-slavery, etc. But, how? The Gurbani answers:

: Doojee duramat sabade khoee (sggs 1051).
