The Infinite Gurbani

The Gurbani is a Prescription for life. It prescribes Naam-Simran (meditation) to silence the deadly disease of Haumai (psychological ego), which is essential to understand the Gurbani and to realize the Truth within.

  • ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨੦॥: Bhagat janaa kee ootam baanee jug jug rahee samaaee ||20||: (sggs 909).
  • ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ…: Gurbani is jagg mahi chaanan…: (sggs 67).
  • ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥: Gur sabadu nihachalu sadaa sachi samaahi ||:  (sggs 842).

Thus, the Gurbani embodies the infinite and the eternal truths valid for all times and people: a lighthouse for the entire world (the Wisdon – Giaan – that shows the Way of life). Some of the perennial truths revealed in the Infinite Wisdom of the Gurbani (Agaadh Bodh) include: Unity of God as All-pervading Infinite Consciousness.

God is within.

The man is made in the True Image (Joti-Svaroopa) of God; hence, the man’s True Nature is Divine.

Man has the unique capacity to realize this Truth in life: we are time and again reminded that the only aim of human life is to realize the Essence of this Divinity within, here and now – not after death, but while still alive (Living Enlightenment).

The experience of the Oneness of the Soul with the Universal Spirit is to Realize God.

Without the Realization of the Shabad (Naam) within, the Realization of one’s True Self (one’s True Nature as Joti Svaroopa, Pure Consciousness, etc.) within is not possible.

These truths (and many more) are capable of being rediscovered by any human being who is ready to put sincere efforts to become Living Liberated by virtue of truthful living and victory over the ego-mind or Haumai. It is not likely for anyone to assume or presume to have mastered the Gurbani that is as Infinite as the Supreme Consciousness.

Dharma (truthful/righteous living) has been fostered by the Gurbani. Through a sincere study of the Gurbani and living it in daily life, one can imbibe a sense of right and wrong (Viveka-Budhi – discerning intellect, and so on).
