Sukh Saagar -

: Sukh Saagaru Amrit Hari Naaou:
The Amrit Hari Naam (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) is
the Sukh Saagar. (sggs 998).
<><><><>

The Gurbani defines the Sukh Saagar and guides us to realize it, here and now.

Literally, "Sukh - ਸੁਖ" = Bliss, Peace, Joy, Happiness...
"Saagar - ਸਾਗਰ" = Ocean, ਸਮੁੰਦਰ...
Therefore, Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) = Ocean of eternal Bliss, Peace, Joy, Happiness, ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ...

Kabeer Sahib says I am absorbed in the Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ).

  • ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਰਮਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੬॥: Sukh saagar mahi ramahi Kabeer ||16||: Kabeer is immersed in the Ocean of Bliss. ||16|| (sggs 344).

In this context, we will try (through the Gurbani) to Reflect on:

1. What is this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) the Gurbani talks about?
2. Where is this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) located?
3. How can we all Experience (Realize...) this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ)?
4. What is it that inhibits us from Realizing this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ)?

What is this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ)?

According to the Gurbani, this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) is none other than the Paarbrahm, Hari Naam (ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ), the Bhagati (Bhagti = to attain Spiritual Wisdom or Aatam-Giaan of the Gurbani -ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ...), Gurmukhi Bibek Budhi, absorption of the mind in Chitt (ਚਿੱਤ), etc.

: The Amrit Hari Naam (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) is the Sukh Saagar. (sggs 998).
  • ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੮੧॥: Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Paarbrahm, the Sukh Saagar. ||4||11||81|| (sggs 46).
: When the Sukh Saagar Guru is realized (Gur-Giaan, Wisdom of the Gurbani...), then all doubts are dispelled. (sggs 626).
: Sing the Glorious Praises of the most exalted Guroo, the Sukh Saagar, the Eradicator of wickedness (viciousness, sinfulness, corruption...), the fountain of the Shabad (ਉਪਦੇਸ, Aatam Giaan...). (sggs 1389).
: The Satiguru (the Gurbani's spiritual Knowledge of Truth, ਸਚ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ...) is the Sukh Saagar in the world; (without the Satiguru) there is no other place of "Sukh" (Peace...). (sggs 603).
: Through the Gurmat (Teaching of the Gurbani), who obtains the Sukh Saagar of Bhagti; Maya and the spiritual powers fall at his feet. (sggs 492).
: Sukhmanee sukh amrit prabh naamu (sggss 262).

Where is this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) located?

According to the Gurbani, the Bhav Saagar (the material world, Maya...) we currently live in is in the Sukh Saagar.

: Bhav saagar sukh saagar maahee: In the Sukh Saagar, there is the Bhav Saagar. (sggs 323).

This material world is likened to an ocean.
Bhav
= existence, world, dread, fear, birth...
Saagar
= ocean, sea...
Therefore, Bhav Saagar=> Manmukhi Budhi, Mayaic mind, the mind's absorption in Maya, world-ocean, Maya-ocean, ocean of material/worldly existence,

In other words, the Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) is hear and now. It is not after death phenomena. Or, It is not to be found, "up there" or "there yonder". It is to be Realized NOW, while living in this world, within (the interior of the Soul, Invisible Essence - Mool, Jot...).

For example, as the Gurbani asserts, if the Amrit Naam is the Sukh Saagar, where is this Naam located? The Gurbani says it's located within:

  • ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥: The Naou Nidhi and the Amrit are in the Divine Naam. Within (to whom the Naam is sweet) the inner body (Dehee: Gupt Dehee, Nirakkar or soul within, Mool...) is its place of rest. (sggs 293).
: Deep Within this body is the well overflowing with the Amrit; the Water-carrier (Naam Japist or Spiritual Being) draws and drinks it through the Shabad (sggs 571).
: isu kaaiaa andari naamu naou nidhi paaeeai gur kai sabadi veechaaraa (sggs 754).
: Sabade hee naaou oopajai sabade meli milaaiaa (sggs 644).

Thus, as the Gurbani time and again reminds us, its all within, here and now!

: (The Divine Virtues, Wisdom, Spiritual tranquility, Naam, Shabad, Amrit, Prabh, ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ…) all that is within the Heart-Home; not outside. Who searches outside is deluded by doubts. By “Gur Parasaadee” (i.e., by the Grace of the Gur-Giaan, the Divine Wisdom of the Gurbani …), those who have Realized within are Happy (tranquil) inwardly and outwardly. ||1|| (sggs 102).
Searching within the body-village, I have found Hari (Mool...). (sggs 1134).
: My Beloved lives in the Cave of my Heart (sggs 1121).
: My Guru is always with me, near at hand (sggs 394).

How can this Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) Be Realized?

By becoming the Gurmukh, asserts the Gurbani. But, who is the Gurmukh?

In nutshell, a Gurmukh is the follower of the Gurmat (“ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ”, the Gurbani’s Teaching…) or Truth (“ਸਚ”); he has transcended Maya – he remains detached in the midst of Maya (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਦਾਸੀ); he is free of the false ego-sense (Haumai, ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ, “ਮੈ ਮੈ”); he is free of doubts (ਭਰਮ) and duality (Doojaa-Bhaav, two-ness, ਦੁਚਿੱਤੀ…); he abides in the Divine Hukam (ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦਾ-ਅਮਲੀ ਜੀਵਨ, ਹੁਕਮੀ ਜੀਵਨ…); he is ever linked to his Mool within (ਮੂਲ: Source, Origin, Truth, Jot…) and ever remains so; he is contented in all situations (Satt-Santokhee); his mind is linked to Antar-Aatmaa; he restrains his mind instead of following his mind; he remains integrated in the state of “ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ” – Ik Mani Ik Chiti; he is established in Bibek Budhi – ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੈ; his Akal (ਅਕਲ , wisdom, intellect, reason, etc.) he follows the Gurbani (Aatam Giaan, Spiritual Wisdom of the Gur-Shabad); he is Aatam Giaanee or Brahm Giaanee; he is established in Chauthaa Pada or Turiyaa Avasthaa (Tenth Gate, Sahaj Avasthaa – Natural State of Being; Sunn Samaadhi, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ, Shabad-Surti, etc.); he knows all the “Way of the soul” (“ਜਾਨੈ ਆਤਮ ਕੀ ਰਹਤ”, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ…); he is the Jeevan Mukat (living Liberated or living Enlightened); he is the fully “Awakened” being who is established at Dasam Duaar (the Tenth-Gate, the Highest Plane of Pure Consciousness)…

: Hari Naam is the Sukh Saagar; it is obtained by becoming the Gurmukh. (sggs 29).
  • ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥੧॥: By becoming the Gurmukh, enjoy the "Hari" (Mool..., within), the Sukh Saagar. ||1|| (sggs 560).
  • ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਲਿ ਸਾਗਰ ॥੩॥: Saadhoo Sukhu Paavahi Kali Saagar ||3||: The Saadhoo finds Bliss in this ocean of Kali (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ or the world-ocean of Mayaic imaginations, ਮਾਇਕੀ ਫੁਰਨੇ, ਕਲਪਨਾ...). ||3|| (sggs 324).

In nutshell, in order to Realize the Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ), here and now, we need to become Nanak-like, Kabeer-like (i.e., Bhagat, Daas, Jan, Gurmukh...).

What is it that inhibits us from Realizing this Sukh Saagar

According to the Gurbani (NOT according to the fool-o-sophy), the reason we cannot Experience the Sukh Saagar (ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ) is that we "do not love the Shabad" (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ-ਸਬਦ/ ਗੁਰ-ਉਪਦੇਸ/ ਸਬਦ-ਗਿਆਨ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ).

: The Manmukhs (self-willed, perverse...) go astray, and being attached to the poison (of Maya, Bikaar...), waste their rare life in vain. The "Hari Naam" is forever the Sukh Saagar, (but the Manmukhs) do not love the Shabad. ||7|| (sggs 565).

In Manmukhtaa, we use the Gur-Shabad to just offer lip-service, ritualistic or robotic reading of the Gurbani without Understanding it through the Shabad-Vichaar, filling the Golak (money!), offer Mayaic prayers (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ, which is totally contradictory to the Teaching of the Gurbani)...

Diligent Shabad-Vichaar makes the Light of Understanding (Light of the spiritual Knowledge of the Gur-Shabad) enter where previously we have been in darkness (of ignorance), and open the entrance to the Sukh Saagar, here and now!
